We have a roller or more like a flipper! This isn't something too new around the house as she has been rolling from her back to her stomach for the past week or two, but I have been unable to catch it on camera because Miss Laineybug:
1.) Only prefers to do it when I leave the room and I come to find her in a totally new position and has also turned 180 degrees
2.) is a stealth roller. She seriously does it so fast that by the time I am reaching for the camera she is looking at me from her stomach saying "Get with the program mom!"
However, I finally caught her on video and here is the proof!
Here is a video of earlier in the week when she had already rolled over, however was having a staring contest with her birdie. What concentration!
We have a busy week lined up! We had a play date today with 3 other mommies from ECFE, I am going to my first MOMS club meeting tomorrow, and then storytime on Friday! Then there is the BIG game on Saturday! Although we are a house divided...I will be cheering loud for the Jayhawks this weekend! (Especially since the Wildcats don't even have a basketball coach anymore!) I am just glad that they didn't come out with "Martinville" t-shirts like they did with "Huggieville". It seems like I can keep a t-shirt around longer than K-State can keep a basketball coach! haha!

Sitting Up!
Sorry for the non-blogging this month! There is this little thing called March Madness going on and it seems to have consumed our lives. By the time we watch the games, check the 10 brackets that we have completed, and finally catch up on our sleep b/c of all the late KU games there leaves little time for the rest of the day. Or that is my excuse anyways. On top of that, we have had the most beautiful start to spring that we have been outside anytime we can get with walks, runs, and chasing Nellie around the neighborhood b/c she has busted through the invisible fence at least 4 times a day. I think that my neighbors are starting to feel really sorry for me or think that I am cray-cray as Lainey and I are running down our cul-de-sac yelling "Wanna Treat Nellie???" at the top of my lungs. This dog is giving me gray hair!
What is new? Well for the past two weeks Miss Lainey is loving a new view in life and that is sitting. At first we were using the bobby to help support her sitting, but now this girl is sitting, balancing, and even using her hands for the famous "tripod" sit. I have a feeling it won't be long until she starts moving...Lord help me!

Como Zoo
This weekend it was beautiful here in Minneapolis! I was starting to forget what sunshine and warmth felt like. We got the invite to go to Como Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul with some friends on Saturday and decided to take advantage of the beautiful day!
For being a "donation only" zoo, it was a great experience and I can't wait to take Lainey there when she is older. It was a great day and a great weekend, although we are trying to adjust to Daylight Savings...we all could use that extra hour of sleep!
Lainey is so excited for her first trip to the zoo! *Sarcasm She ended up sleeping through most of the tour. |

5 Months Old!
Happy 5 Month Birthday Laineybug! I don't know where time is going, but it is flying by!
The more months that she adds on, the chubbier her cheeks are getting! And we have added a new talent:
Here are the 5 Month Stats:
Weight: 15 lbs 14 oz
Height: 26.5 inches
What you are wearing: 6 months! You grew right out of the 3-6 months clothes!
What you are eating: Breast milk exclusively, but we will be starting baby food next month! Yea for avacados and squash!
Loves: Sucking my thumb, jumping in my jumperoo, grabbing at any and all toys, watching mommy and daddy eat/drink, reading books before bedtime, bathtime, watching Nellie, singing my nursery rhymes and going to music class/storytime, sitting up (almost by myself!), skyping with anyone and everyone, going for walks in my stroller on the nice days, and having playdates with new friends - Carver, Oliver, and the Bittie Twins aka Ben and Kate!
Dislikes: Being cold after bathtime, pacifiers, bottles, being separated from mom,, being in my carseat for more than a half hour (and not being asleep).
We are also working on not using the swaddle anymore as she is about ready to grow out of her sleep sack. Needless to say, it has been a long couple of nights but each night is better than the last! We are still NOT sleeping through the night and her schedule ususally looks something like this: down b/w 7:00-7:30pm, up at 11:00pm, up at 3:00am, and then up for the day at 6:00-6:30am. There have been times where she has either slept through the 11:00pm or 3:00am times and those nights have been glorious for me. The thing that makes it all worth it is that she almost always wakes me up with coos and babbling in her crib. Favorite time of my day no matter how exhausted I am!
Happy Friday!

Lainey's Laugh and Giggles
Lainey has started to giggle and laugh more on a regular basis and it is the cutest thing in the world. The first time she did it was when we were singing "If You Are Happy and You Know It!" and I melted! Here are some videos of some other things that make her laugh/giggle. Video Disclaimer: again, please excuse my obnoxious voice.
She loves it when I give her "kisses" on her cheeks, neck, and on the lips. This always results in a smile, but I got a lot of giggles this day!
This was a little bit later...she didn't know whether to cry or laugh. She is getting so good at expecting the next thing...like kisses or when we sing "POP! Goes the Weasel!" Too cute!
I don't know where this song came from but Lainey loves it when B does it for her. Of course, it never works quite as well when I do it.
Enjoy!

The First Run
I am so naive. So, so naive. I came to the realization that if I start using such things as the weather, the dog, what I ate for supper, and the TV shows on at night that I will never be running outside therefore not training for my half marathon. So tonight I told myself to buck up and start running.
After putting Lainey to sleep and getting dressed, Nellie and I left the house at 7:45pm. I then came back into the house at 7:46pm as Nellie would not budge from the driveway. (I think she had some horrible flashbacks of running with Bethany in Utah and therefore refused any torture tonight.) Lesson #1 - don't take Nellie with me or else I will not be getting my mileage in anytime soon. Thank goodness she refused at the very beginning. So at 7:47pm, I set out on my trek for the second time.
Lesson #2 - look at the temperature before you leave the house. It was a whopping 26 degrees tonight. I was wearing my Nike Capri tights, short sleeve preformance tee, and a jacket = Stupid. Oh and at least I put on a headband = WINNING! Not. Who runs when it is 26 degrees and a nice crisp wind that probably drops the temp another 5 degrees? This girl! Remember...no excuses! I guess there are also no excuses for being stupid.
Lesson #3 - running at night in the above cold temperature results in unforeseen obstacles. Black Ice. I felt like I should have worn my Keen hiking boots at multiple times of the run tonight.
Lesson #4 - need to invest in some good tunes. I love my music, however Coldplay and Fiona Apple does not get the blood pumping during a 26 degree run. I think I hit the forward button at least 20 times before I finally found an old school Justin Timberlake song to bust a move too.
After learning from all of these hard knocks, I am proud to say that I ran the entire 2.5 miles without stopping. Who wants to stop when it is that cold anyways? Good motivation! It wasn't much but it was a start. I was riding this high until I realized that I would have only a measley 10.6 more miles to go. Here's to the next 3 months of training to get me there!
-Manda
P.S. Made this tonight - AMAZING! Brandon even ate a "chip" and said that they were "okay". That is just fine as I finished off the rest of the sheet pan. Will be working more kale into the menu!

Cleavage and Passing Gas
Here is a cute video of Lainey just hanging out on Saturday morning. She decided that she didn't care what anyone thought and decided to let it all hang out. Just know that she gets her gas from her dad.
Happenings in the past week:
1.) Nellie Death Patrol Watch
Nellie decided that the ant traps we had set out in the basement tasted just like peanut butter (surprisingly they smelled just like her favorite treat) and she had eaten and licked all the poison out of the trap. So after debating whether or not to take her to the Emergency Vet (yes this happened on a Sunday), B decided to call poison control. Luckily, since she is overweight and a big dog they said that she should be okay and to encourage her to eat/drink but to be on the lookout for seizures, convulsions, throwing up, kidney failure, etc. Okay??? Well, we just watched her for most of the day do what she does best:
She is doing fine and I think that we are in the clear.
2.) Snow Time!
We finally had a big snow and surprisingly it was big enough to shut down school. Apparently that has only happened one other time in the last 12 years. So I know what you are thinking...we got 24 inches right? Nope...just 7 inches, but apparently timing is everything and having 7 inches in the early AM on top of a lot of freezing rain will do the trick. It finally gave Laineybug an opportunity to show off her super cute snowsuit that Bethany and Clay got her for Christmas. I felt so bad that we haven't been able to use it, as it has been the 3rd most warmest/driest winter they have ever had.
3.) Half Marathon Training Begins!
I guess I have gone off the deep end or a little "Cray-Cray" but I have signed up and registered for the Minneapolis Half Marathon on June 3rd! I have a little over 3 months to train...but it is going to be painful. A good pain as I need to get this post-maternity booty into pre-maternity shape and I think that this will be a great goal. Not only that, but three of my besties will be joining me to run as well! Thank you to Lindsay, Megan, and Rosa! And here is the kicker...all of my training is going to be outside as I decided not to pay $85/month to join the gym here (now that is cray-cray). Instead, it is going to be Lainey and I in the B.O.B Stroller (which I get on Wednesday!) pounding the pavement. Wish us luck and we will keep you updated!
Hope everyone has a great week! It is going to be 50 degrees tomorrow and we are going to spend the whole day outside as I could use some Vit D!
